
James Langan
Lord Palmerston Adjunct Fellow in Grey-Zone Deterrence and Strategic Statecraft
James Langan is a serving Royal Air Force officer, currently the military strategist for the Joint Expeditionary Force, with operational experience in Afghanistan, Sudan, the Gulf, and Operation SHADER. Formerly the United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defence (MOD)’s chief Information Operations instructor, he specialises in influence, targeting, and Strategic Communications (StratCom). Previously a European energy commodities trader, he conducts research examining geoeconomics, hybrid warfare, deterrence, and critical infrastructure. He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from Cambridge and is a Visiting Fellow at Oxford’s Strategy, Statecraft, and Technology Centre.
