Join Mikhail Khodorkovsky and The Rt. Hon. Baroness Neville-Jones as they discuss the implications of the 2021 Russian Parliamentary Elections.
About this event
The Russian Federation is due to go through the farcical pretense of legislative elections between the 17th and 19th September which will define the composition of the Russian Parliament’s lower chamber (State Duma) for the next five years. The Putin regime acquiesces to this pantomime as a matter of perception, with no intention of allowing it to disrupt their tight hold on power. Despite the potential for democracy to grow from the ashes of the Soviet Union, today Russia remains an authoritarian kleptocracy.
This event will discuss the election results and how they have been impacted by constitutional amendments of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic and hard-hit economy, opposition protests in 2020 and the turbulent international environment.
The Council on Geostrategy invites you to join Mr Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Baroness Neville-Jones as they discuss the results of the Russian Duma elections, the challenges of election monitoring and counting, regional variations in voters preferences, the state of Russian authoritarianism in 2021 and the wider global ramifications.
