As part of the International Sea Power Conference (ISPC) 2025, the Council on Geostrategy is pleased to invite you to our second official ISPC 2025 side event, held in partnership with London International Shipping Week. The invitation-only panel discussion is titled: ‘Protecting shipping in an age of contestation’, and will take place at The Rag (Army & Navy Club).
In light of the recent escalation of attacks on merchant vessels and growing threats to maritime trade, this discussion will focus on how best to protect global shipping in an era of intensifying geopolitical instability. A key focus will be the role of innovative public-private partnerships in securing maritime routes – particularly in the context of budgetary and operational constraints faced by navies and governments.
The roundtable will examine the evolving threats to maritime trade and consider the responses needed to address them. It will highlight successful and emerging public–private models for securing shipping lanes, while showcasing examples of collaboration between industry, government and defence stakeholders. Additionally, it aims to generate innovative and practical approaches to strengthening maritime resilience.
The panel will bring together four expert speakers, each offering their own perspective, before the conversation is opened to a moderated Q&A with invited guests.
