Since its official launch in March 2021, the Council on Geostrategy has established itself as a leading think tank dedicated to generating a new generation of geostrategic thinking for a more competitive age.

Our non-profit organisation focuses on shaping British strategic ambition in an international environment increasingly defined by geopolitical competition and the environmental crisis so that the United Kingdom (UK) is best able to succeed and prosper in the twenty-first century.

Role:

We seek to appoint a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, communications, and organisational skills to lead our media engagement and public relations. The successful applicant will have a graduate or postgraduate degree in a relevant field and a keen interest in strengthening the national power and profile of the UK – as well as foreign affairs and international security more generally.

The Media Officer will be an integral part of our organisation’s team. The successful applicant will develop and lead the media engagement strategy, involve themselves in raising the organisation’s public profile and visibility, and produce audio-visual content. The role will require building and maintaining long-term relations with key stakeholders and working hand in hand with our research, operations, and engagement teams to ensure the successful delivery of our media engagement.

This role is an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to immerse themselves in the world of Westminster and promote the strengthening of Britain domestically and internationally.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working with the leadership team to enhance the publicity of the Council on Geostrategy nationally and internationally;
  • Working in tandem with the Communications and Creativity Officer on audio/visual content (including podcasts);
  • Developing and leading the media engagement strategy;
  • Dealing with media enquiries and proactively setting up interviews; preparing press releases and organising press briefings; ghost-writing op-eds when required;
  • Monitoring and recording media coverage for all personnel;
  • Maintaining and regularly updating databases of key stakeholders;
  • Willingness to work ‘out of hours’ when media liaison requires;
  • Other relevant duties related to the role.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree (2.1 or equivalent or above) and/or postgraduate degree;
  • Knowledge of DaVinci Resolve or similar to edit and produce podcasts;
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term and impactful relationships with stakeholders;
  • Understanding of – and the ability to navigate – the media landscape nationally and internationally;
  • Excellent organisational, time-management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced skills in Google Workspace and other key IT applications; social media skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail;
  • A keen interest in strengthening the national power and profile of the United Kingdom, as well as foreign affairs, defence policy, and international security more generally.

Salary: £27,500 per annum (gross)
