The Council on Geostrategy, in partnership with Lockheed Martin, is delighted to be co-hosting a half-day conference entitled ‘Rebuilding the ladder: Options for bolstering Britain’s nuclear posture’, to mark the launch of our forthcoming Report of the same name.
The Report examines how the nuclear postures of adversaries have evolved as well as wider geopolitical developments which are putting deterrence under strain. It provides an overview of the development of nuclear sharing practices in NATO from the Cold War to today to explain why the current approach is the one in use and what this might mean for the future of extended deterrence in the alliance. With HM Government having identified nuclear deterrence as the ‘bedrock’ of UK defence, the aim of the Report is to help inform how Britain can ‘support the US and its NATO Allies in strengthening extended deterrence across the Euro-Atlantic’.
The event will bring together key stakeholders to reflect on these findings. The first half of the conference will centre on a panel discussion to explore the Report’s conclusions. The second half will feature an interactive roundtable format to further develop the findings identified in the Report.
Speakers to be announced soon!
