The geopolitics of the Himalayas

Since at least May 2020, tensions between the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and India have simmered as Beijing has attempted to expand Chinese influence along the southern border. Similarly to the stealthy tactics it has deployed in the South China Sea, the PRC has seized territories in Bhutan, while taking control of the waters of the River Brahmaputra – much to India’s chagrin. This map visualises the geopolitics of the Himalayas region, and how British interests in the Indo-Pacific may be affected by a Himalayan conflict.
