Burden sharing: How Britain and America can prepare for a multi-front crisis

17 June at 13:00 17:00 BST

The Council on Geostrategy, in partnership with Lockheed Martin UK, is delighted to be co-hosting a half-day conference entitled ‘Burden sharing: How Britain and America can prepare for a multi-front crisis’, to mark the launch of our forthcoming Report of the same name.

The Report examines how the UK and US can prepare for multi-front geopolitical crises, as well as the diverging national interests and industrial constraints which are putting the special relationship under strain. It provides an overview of historical burden-sharing practices from the Cold War to today to explain why the bilateral relationship should return to a more active and coordinated posture of proactive dissuasion and what this means for the future coordination of force postures across global theatres. With both nations rebuilding atrophied defence industrial bases amid the prospect of escalating geopolitical risks, the aim of the Report is to help inform how the UK can overcome procedural risk aversion and leverage asymmetric advantages to achieve strategic indispensability.

The event will bring together key stakeholders to reflect on these findings. The first half of the conference will centre on a panel discussion to explore the Report’s conclusions. The second half will feature an interactive exercise to develop the findings identified in the Report further.

Speakers to be announced soon!
