New Advisory Board member joins the Council on Geostrategy

The Council on Geostrategy is delighted and honoured to announce a new member of our Advisory Board. Lord Walney will bring knowledge and experience to the Council that will support our work towards new geostrategic thinking for a more competitive age.

Lord Walney sits as a crossbench peer in the House of Lords and is Vice Chair of the AUKUS All-Party Parliamentary Group. In 2010, he was elected as the Labour-Cooperative MP for Barrow and Furness. He served on the Defence Committee and as Chair of the Parliamentary Labour Party’s foreign affairs and defence committees. Lord Walney is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies and obtained a Master’s in International Security and Strategy from King’s College London. Between 2020 and 2025, Lord Walney served as an Independent Adviser on Political Violence and Disruption and authored the 2024 Walney Review – ‘Protecting Our Democracy From Coercion.’
