On 26th September 2022, the Nord Stream pipelines were sabotaged, with Russia as the main suspect. Since then, concerns have grown over the vulnerability of undersea infrastructure, particularly in the United Kingdom – an island nation – given that 99% of the world’s communications are delivered by 1.4 million kilometres of submarine cable. This map visualises underwater cables in the Euro-Atlantic region, as well as the centrality of the British Isles to underwater networks.
